As a self-confessed (proclaimed?) travel addict, it’s safe to say I travel a LOT. Seriously, I consider Sky Harbor – the airport here in Phoenix – my home away from home. And there are plenty of benefits to excessive travel: racking up airline and hotel points and experiencing new cultures obviously spring to mind. But there are also the things you come across along the way that you realize make traveling easier, more enjoyable, and just plain BETTER. The items that really help you dial in your journeys. So without further ado, here are my 9 travel must-haves!

9 Travel Must-Haves!

1. Away – The Bigger Carry-On

Confession: I will do everything humanly possible to avoid checking a bag at the airport. Is this possibly an overreaction to my luggage being lost by airlines one too many times? Perhaps. Nevertheless, it is what it is, and I’m a “carry-on or bust” kinda gal with very few exceptions. As a result, I cannot travel without a superior carry-on roller bag. My absolute favorite is Away’s – The Bigger Carry-On. It fits into the overhead bins of most major airlines, has 360 degree wheels so it rolls like a dream, it’s lightweight, has interior compression so you can jam more in it than you’d expect, and has a handy built-in laundry bag. I love this suitcase so much that I have 2 of them. One of which is the Carry-On Flex . It expands, so if you happen to go shopping on vacation and need more room you can check it on the way home (yes, that is one of my exceptions to checking luggage!).

2. Travelon 2-in-1 Jewelry & Tech Organizer

In this modern day and age, the simple fact of the matter is that we all tend to travel with a lot of tech. Phones, smart watches, laptops, tablets, e-readers, wireless headphones, etc. And all of that tech can involve a whole lot of cords and accoutrement. And that is where the Travelon Tech Organizer (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/3TbQMBz ) comes in and saves the day!  This little pouch has made my life so much easier when I travel. ALL of my tech gear lives in it. I stash it in my backpack or purse (whatever is going under the seat in front of me) and then I have easy access to my earbuds, or whatever cord I may need for whatever gadget I’m using during the flight.

3. Cord Organizer Clips

Speaking of cords … am I the only one that loses her mind when they are just a tangled mess jumbled together?!? Assuming it’s not just me, my next travel must have are these amazing magnetic cord organizer clips (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/3T16r6w ). Just neatly fold up a cord, wrap the fun silicone magnetic clip around it and TADA – you are instantly a queen of organization with nary a tangled cord in sight!

4. Kindle Paperwhite

I’m an avid reader. Back in the olden days I used to pack several ACTUAL books in my suitcase for trips. Which took up a lot of valuable real estate in said suitcase.  And while I still LOVE an actual physical book, I do not travel without my Kindle Paperwhite (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/437QmAE ). One of my favorite pre-trip rituals is loading up my Kindle with new books to read – at the airport, on the plane, on the beach, in bed – you get the idea. I can bring as many books as my heart desires and it takes up barely any space in my backpack. Perfect!

5. Compression Socks

Look, I know that compression socks are NOT sexy or even remotely stylish. However, they are lifesavers (potentially literally) on long haul flights. Since they’re never going to be fashionable, in my opinion they might as well be fun – so my go-to compression socks always involve fun/ridiculous prints that make me smile.  Try these: (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/48LxWH5).

6. Compression Packing Cubes

When you’re hell bent on NOT checking your luggage, you necessarily become a pro at squeezing more than any normal person would believe possible into your carry-on bag. Or do you? It turns out there’s a secret to turning your carry-on luggage into the clown car version of a closet and that secret is compression packing cubes. I’m not great at editing when I pack. However, I can pack for 12 days in Thailand using only my carry-on solely because I use compression packing cubes.  Do yourself a favor and buy these (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/3uTUoA1 ) – bonus, they have lots of fun colors to choose from!

7. Roll Up Straw Sun Hat

More often than not, my trips involve some amount of ocean or pool time. As a woman of a certain age that takes very serious care of her skin, sunscreen is obviously a must, but it’s not enough on its own. A cute wide brimmed straw sun hat is simply non-negotiable. That said, have you tried packing a straw hat? Oof. They take up way too much room and inevitably get squished and never quite recover after you unpack.  THIS (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/4c4YHZT ) is the solution! This hat is cute, wide enough to provide plenty of coverage, perfect with your hair down or in a high pony, AND IT ROLLS UP. You heard me. It rolls up! Takes up barely any room in your luggage and never gets bent out of shape. AMAZING!

8. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

There are few things I hate more than dry, cracked lips.  And nothing dries out your lips like air travel (and I say that as a human who lives in the desert). My must-have lip savior on all trips is Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/49ZqNVb ).  Trust me, nothing works better to protect your precious pout.

9. Lululemon Everywhere Beltbag

When I’m exploring I have to have a versatile cross-body bag that can hold my phone, my room key, cash, a credit card, sunnies, and a lip gloss. My current favorite/I take it everywhere with me vacay bag is the Lululemon Everywhere Beltbag. And if you’re looking for something similar at a friendlier price point, check out this option (Amazon link: https://amzn.to/3wDQT0T ).

And there you have it! My 9 travel must-haves! If you incorporate some or all of these into your adventures, you are going to be a MUCH happier traveler.
