Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort Review

I had a truly lovely stay at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort. While not as lux as I might normally go for, this hotel had a ton of great things going for it that ultimately led me to choose this as my home base in Kauai. Read on for my Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort review!

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort Review

The Pros

  • Beautiful oceanfront pool area that’s perfect for soaking up the Hawaiian sun. Whether you want to lounge poolside or in a hammock on the beach this hotel has you covered. The infinity edge pool abuts the beach and has separate areas for kiddos and adults. While not huge, the pool area is well appointed with a variety of seating options and fire pits that are lit in the evenings. Crooked Surf (the pool bar and restaurant) is never more than a few steps away and ready to serve you a tropical beverage or tasty meal whenever your heart desires, with live music every evening. And it’s worth mentioning that I found the service at Crooked Surf to be stellar – the bartenders were all friendly and helpful (I got some great tips for the best hikes to check out on the island).
  • Ideal central location on the east side of Kaui that makes it easy to explore. Location really does matter on an island with no roads that cut across the middle. Since you’ll need to circumvent the island by effectively driving around it to get anywhere, setting up your base camp here will ultimately save you a ton of time. The resort is also within walking distance of a Longs Drugs (very handy for picking sunscreen and snacks for your room), as well as other shops and restaurants.
  • The rooms. While perhaps not ultra luxurious, the rooms are well appointed with a lovely tropical cabana vibe that I found quite charming as well as comfortable. Mine had a balcony with a view of the pool and, to a lesser extent, the ocean where I enjoyed a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise several mornings during my stay.

The Not So Pros

  • Rocky beach. Although the beach is picture perfect, it’s a bit rocky and not ideal for swimming. There are no lifeguards, so definitely be careful if heading into the ocean for a dip.
  • Dated elements. The hallways feel a bit dated and the elevators are somewhat slow; access to stairs can be tricky to find.
  • Service is fine, but not stellar. I just chalked it up to “island time”, but I did find what seemed like just a general lack of any sense of urgency in terms of service at the resort.  Nothing major (the valet attendants were nowhere to be found so I self-parked, most mornings I waited between 5 and 10 minutes for a host to seat me for breakfast, etc.), just not the level of service I’ve grown accustomed to at Marriott properties.

Overall

And there you have it – that’s my Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort review! A solid 4 out of 5 stars. I absolutely recommend it if you’re looking for an enchanting place to stay while visiting Kauai. Need an itinerary for your Kauai vacation? Check out this post!
